One of a pair of panels known as Heather and Sea Holly, although their official titles are "Thistle of the Beach and Heather of the Cliffs . . . Mucha himself, according to his son Jiri, always referred to the pictures as 'la Bretonne' and 'la Normande' . . . as both the plants and the costumes worn by the ladies are representative of two ancient seacoast provinces of Northwestern France, Brittany and Normandy" (Rennert / Weill p. 290).
